I'd like to get an idea of all the nooks and crannies where art is viewable in this valley, from coffee shops to wineries to downtown venues. I've had several people stop by the gallery, new to the area, looking for art. I've told them the venues I know of, but can only direct them to the ones I'm aware of.
Help by submitting a comment posting detailing where art is hanging, and the type of art that one is likely to find there- if you know details like who manages the art exhibitions, hours, etc., that'd be great, but at least knowing where to find art would be cool. I wish I had time to scout all this out, but I don't. I don't need the LAA exhibit sites - they've got a comprehensive listing all set and ready to go (thanks you hard workers at LAA).
Also, I'd like to conduct an informal survey on artist's needs - You can e-mail me privately with this info at info@lindaryanfineart.com if you would prefer not to post publicly. You can also feel free to post with abandon!
First and foremost, studio needs. Are you interested in studio space? What size and price range? Also, would you be interested in group space, where you could leave your easel and paints/brushes/whatever out? Would you want a private enclosed space?
Then, give me feedback on exhibition opportunities. Do you feel there are enough in the area to fill your needs? Do you want more challenging opportunities? Should we work to create more opportunities for multiple artist exhibitions around a theme, more opportunities for solo shows ... more what? Be honest about your level -- if you are not yet ready for a solo show (i.e., do you have enough quality, ready-to-hang work that would create a solid exhibition for a gallery?) perhaps more group exhibitions would be beneficial to you.
Do you feel we have enough fine arts type festivals, and do you have suggestions for further festival type events? I personally want more in-depth art, stuff that makes you think or at least wander, visually, but perhaps I am pushing the wrong way for this community. I'd be interested in your response.
Do you want more communion with other artists? Do you have suggestions as to how to create these? So far, there are critique groups around town, and our Artist Show and Tell at the Bothwell, but this can't be answering the whole need for interaction.
Do you have suggestions for the arts community in general, that would contribute to the greater good? Please feel free to share.
And then, what kinds of groups or community are you looking for?
What do you need to grow as an artist? Not that we can fill the need - but maybe something will come up that will be perfect for you.
Growing the arts is the goal, here. Let's keep it happening. Feedback would be great.
